hi, i got a beat up 87 toy 22r that i was gonna project.i started with the carb after removing the 4 bolts on the top and the drain plug in the front i cleaned the area with the sight glass.it was red and looked rusty with dirt.cleaned the jet and installed everything again.now the carb over fills with gas and literally pours out of the carb flooding it.im kinda new at this so any suggestions would help.

Somehow you disturbed the float level and/or needle valve when you cleaned/re-assembled the carb. Pull it apart to find out what's wrong.

Properly adjusted, the fuel level in the bowl should be at the center of the sightglass.

i would make sure that the hinge on the float moves freely. make sure gunk didnt get stuck in there making it hard to move. probably got flipped to fully open the fuel flow and thats why its flooding.

after you clean everything off, hit it up with some assembly oil to make sure it moves freely as well.

sounds like you put the needle valve for the floats in backwards.

the rubber end is meant to plug off the gas line

yeah, it has to be the needle valve everything else wasnt touched.im also thinking of getting an external electric fuel pump, any good brands? and what psi for the stock carb is good?

i bent the tab a little on the floater and cleaned the need and double checked for leaks.the truck runs but the see thru glass only shows less than half of the recommended halfway mark.would adjusting the idle mixture or idle screw affect the level?or do i need to open it up again and bend it more causing the floats to sagg lower?

bending the tab to make the floats sit lower

    =

less gas in the fuel bowl.

only reason i would do that is for a off camber or hillclimb situation...ie: wheelin.

for a "normal" car or truck id keep it stock fuel level. that way you wont starve around hard corners or hard accel.

oh okay.so if i bend the tab making the float sit lower it'll add less fuel but if i make the floats sits higher before i close up and bolt the carb together more fuel will enter?

hhhmmi got a fpr set it at the lowest which is 4.5 psi, pump flows 4-7,its still flooing, truck starts but will die seconds while idling unless i keep gassing it.i spent about 100 bux so far, adjuste the carb floats,im thinking a lower psi pump, right?

sounds like the carb still isn't adjusted right. i rebuilt the edelbrock on my mustang because it was flooding. worked good for about a week and started acting up again. pulled it apart again and found the float had a pin hole and was filling up.
