So I'm in the process of gathering all the parts needed and cleaning them up for this swap. So far I have bought an 8" axle removed from an 87 2wd 4cyl 4speed, an 86 supra lsd unit, new seals for the axles and the max grip upgrade for the lsd unit. Now my questions is should I buy a 3rd member for the new 8" from a 6cyl or a 4cyl? I plan on getting the new 3rd and putting 4:10 gears with the supra lsd . Also will my driveshaft have to be modified? All of this is going under my 92 2wd 4cyl 5speed ex-cab.
Either 4 or 6 cylinder 3rd will work if you use the correct bearings. If i remember right they use the stock 6 cylinder bearings so a V6 would be the easiest route. The 8" diff is about 1" longer than the 7.5" but it will fit just fine.
Ty for the info. I know I could of bought an lsd from and early Celica but got tired of waiting and the 8" is going to last me a long time I think.
You won't hear me saying not to do the swap, ever. I don't see the 7.5 being worth it's weight in dirt. I don't care if your cousin has ran a 7.5" in his 5000 hp top fuel celica, it's fawking junk when there is a bomb proof and bolt in solution for cheap.
I should start sending parts out for powder coating soon and get the 3rd built. Hope to have it all done soon. The garage needs cleaned which mean a lot of parts need to start getting installed.
If you have any advice and or photos @Raffaelli to help that would be great. I just want to make sure the V6 3rd will fit into the 4cyl rear axle w/o issues. I have been reading everthing on this Toyota gear install for everything on this install
100% drop in. The one single thing that needs to be addressed is the one long stud the 3.07 diff uses that no other 8" diff uses. It needs to be swapped out for a shorter stud or a bolt. No big deal. I've ran a 4.56 V6 diff and I'm currently running a 4 cylinder diff with 4.10's.
