I was just wondering what a breather is and what it does. I have seen them on some engines but not sure what its for.

An engine builds pressure, the breather hose in the valve cover allows it to go somewhere (ie, allows the engine to breathe), the hose returns the fumes to the air cleaner, where it mixes with incoming air and gets reburned.

I like breathers better because it prevents oil from back drafting in to the intake.

PCV valve goes DIRECTLY into the 22RE's intake manifold

one question, are u talkin about the front breather or the rear? the rear is where the PCV valve is, i wont recomment putting a breather on that. but the front i would, as i have tried both...and the rear put oil all over the motor :(

I would like to think that's one of the main purposes of having a forum as this. You're going to run into all kinds of guys/gals, some with tons of experience, while others with just months under their belts when it comes to Toyotas (like me). :)

But I'm sure we all know something the next guy/gal may not know.

So don't be afraid to FIRE AWAY. :D

its like my first grade teacher said, " don't be afraid to raise your hand and ask. Somebody else probably has the same question and is afraid to ask."

i had one in the back on my 302 in my mustang, and it always blew oil onto my valve cover:mad:
