I took my weber off for smog and rebuilt the stock one and now this:

    22R IDK? - YouTube

NOW, I have a rebuilt carb, new egr valve, all emissions are correctly hooked up (done this 20+million times now), idles/runs good but does what it does in the video.

I should of taken a video of it above 2300 rpm, but i wasn't thinking... it runs like crap, missing and **** like a big vacuum leak opens up somewhere.

Could something controlled by the "emissions control computer" be activating something, or not activating something? Or could some type of vacuum actuated emissions component be malfunctioning?

It seems like hooking up all my emissions related vacuum lines and such has woken up some mystery issue and even with the old weber back on the truck and no emissions related vacuum lines hooked up, it will continue to do this.

I'm desperate! I need my truck back! Its been sitting at my moms house 10 miles away for the past month and half and i only have time to work on it for a few hours, 1 day a week...Paid registration, but it has to stay off the street until i get it smogged :(

Seems to be vacuum related .i have seen accelerator pumps on carbs leak and pull air but u said rebuilt and both carbs do it so rule that out I would start plugging vacuum lines and testing the rpms try to eliminate each one until it stops sounds like a leak a hiccup at a certain rpm may point to a solenoid vacum activated valve

    Ok, still no progress...

Pinched every vaccuum line for no change. Checked timing, advance, wires, cap, rotor...

Anybody think it could be as simple as plugs? I haven't checked them yet, but they only have about 20k miles on them and this issue came on SUDDENLY.

Anybody have a carb issue like this?

I'm going to swap the weber back next chance i get, just to rule the carb out for the 10th time!

I'm lost... if you can fix it, i'll give you a 22r long block i have sitting around!

    lol

I took a video of it above 2300rpm:

Oh yeah, watch the video with headphones, or good speakers.

I recorded it with the door shut, so you need to hear the BASS of the missing.

And its not lean missing...Already misted it with carb cleaner during Sh*t mode and it did'nt clear up at all.

I had the EXACT same problem with my 76' pickup. I ruled it out to be my carb. I rebuilt the aisin one, but everytime it warmed it up, it felt as though something was stuck open. My rpms would shoot up to 4k sometimes and hang there. Once I put my weber in, it was all good. As for smog, I'm in the same boat; gotta find someone who can pass the visual portion because of the weber.

So, I swapped my weber back and it runs awesome....

With my rebuilt it runs like in the video.... so I put my dads carb on since I know his is good, and guess what?....

    Runs just like my rebuilt!

So, after pinching off every vaccum line for no change, any ideas?

Just like reported in the first post, carb cleaner doesn't make it run a...ny better when I get into the sh**ty rpms...

I'm leaning towards the emissions computer, but even then, I can't make sense of what it could b doing?

I'm about to break down and see if a shop can diagnose it :(

    Maybe 20k miles ago?

I would think a clogged fuel filter would indicate a lean condition....

A fuel filter is pretty cheap might wanna try changing it out. My truck ran very similiar to yours before i changed mines out.

    10 year anniversary!

I took my Weber off again and the same issue remains, lol.

I have 2 aisin carbs that have been gone through multiple times.

Fuel filter is new. Fuel is right in the middle of the sight glass. I’ve tried both carbs, even fully desmogged (only vacuum to the distributor + aap plugged).

    *Runs fine with the weber*

    What a mystery!

Idle mix is out 4-5 turns and It seems to respond to carb cleaner when it starts missing, so I’m almost positive it’s a vacuum leak “of some kind”. Maybe throttle bushings or carb body gaskets? IDK, it’s strange that I get the same symptoms from 2 different carbs, 3 if you include the one I took off of a running truck 10 years ago, geez.

If you blip the throttle do the RPMs rise smoothly or does it also stumble?

are the fuel pressure requirements the same for the aisin and the weber?

Find someone with a “smoker”. Fastest way to find a vacuum leak.
