I have a stock aisin carb and was wondering if theres a way to unplug or bypass the choke? Idk if the choke is causing my problems but when I start it when its cold it idles a little high after it has fully warmed up and backfires like crazy. If I shut it off then start it again the idle drops a little lower and backfiring goes away. Any ideas??

One idea is to replace it with a Redline Weber. If you have the same problems, it's not the carb, but you have a better carb out of the deal

Ya that's the plan in the near future is to put a Weber on it just don't have the funds at the moment. Was hoping there was a way to get around the choke on these stock carbs for the time being.

Not sure where you live but just make sure the Weber will still pass whatever inspections you may have to do

I live in Pendleton Oregon so no emissions what so ever here haha. Just think it's weird how after it's warmed up and I Turn it off then start back up the idle drops a little and backfiring goes away...

    Have u checked your timing?

You could always rig the choke up to a cable system and manually choke it?

Ya I did the timing. Running it a little advanced and how would I do that with a electric choke?

Can you disconnect the choke at all?

    Thanks for the link.

I have the opposite problem of BrandonRob8: When my engine is cold, the carb sets the mixture way, way, way too rich so that it just wants to die. When it warms up, the mixture doesn't lean out as it is supposed to and so, of course, the engine just dies. But then, I wait a few minutes, start the engine and let it die once. Then I start it again and it runs fine. It even passes smog check, after going through the ritual of warm up, start once, engine dies, start again. I am guessing it has something to do with the spaghetti emissions hoses. One of these days I plan to go through all the hoses to chase down the problem...

I rigged up a manual choke on my Aisan. Ground the rivets off of the choke housing, pulled out the electric choke guts, and used the $12 manual choke kit that's all over the internet. Routed the cable through one of the firewall grommets and mounted the knob on the sidewall of the cab under the dash.

well looks like I will just try and put a manual choke on it or try and rig it up so that my chokes off all the time.

So if I unhooked the red wire going to the choke would that disengage it so that it would be closed all the time?
