my 83 Toyota has about a 1.5" Z on the front clip. i am debating not lowering the motor mounts since the oil pan has to be hacked. (im just scared to butcher my oil pan to crap.) will this cause issues for the carb since it will essentially always run at a 1.5" incline? i will have a weber carb installed by the time the truck is done. i also thought of having my neighbor cnc my mounting pad to an angle to correct the incline. it will also have an electric fan installed so the pitch of the fan clutch wont be a problem if i leave it be w/ the 1.5" incline. ive heard 50-50 opinions about doing either. any help/opinions would be appreciated.
When we do the Z's (I'm assuming by your description you did it behind the motor by the firewall), we also move the trans crossmember up the same amount to level it back out and gain more clearance. Also, so when you're draggin, it's not the trans hitting the ground, lol. Some guys just put a spacer in, but we move the whole crossmember up. I wouldn't hack the pan unless there is no other option, we've never had to.
yeah. i forgot to mention that option.... that was something else i had considered. raising the tranny. ive got to install a new trans member anyhow along with a tranny tunnel. i never imagined this truck would have to be altered and cut so damn much simply to lay frame.
15" old school elite vipers bro! believe it or not it was more work on smaller wheels. everything had to be notched, etc to clear the wheel lip around the balljoint, etc. also had to get clearance problems fixed so that nothin bound up while turning...
are you doing the work lucky? i thought i saw something about you were going to have twist of cain do the suspension
its at fe02 fabrication... we are just trying to figure out our options. i think im gonna lower the engine a bit and raise the tranny a bit. i dont wanna butcher the oil pan and im afraid if i raise the trans the full 1.5" or so then from engine rattle/vibrations that it might hit the hood anyway. i think im gonna leave it in tony's hand (my fab guy) hes the **** and he will figure it out. i just thought that i would try to figure out my options to help him out! ;-)
Seth on http://www.twistedminis.com has done several oil pan mods & has has great success with it! Check out his site for more info & helpful tips!
ive seen those. i have a few of his parts on my truck already... i just dont wanna hack my oilpan. seems like an issue waiting to happen when thats done.
i havent heard of this guy. he must be pretty good if your using him what happened to cain bagging it?
i doubt the incline would cause much of a problem. it's not like every street in the world is flat all the time
