Just got home from finishing up the rebuild on the 350 so I figured I'd start a build page for those that want to follow. Should be interesting. :)

    Current Plan;

    • Install engine next weekend. Everything minus the radiator has been purchased (Waiting till after I mount the engine to see what I can fit)
    • Eventually go to a Ford 8.8 Rear End (Gonna see how much abuse the stock Toyota one can take with a Mini Spool)
    • QA1 Coilover conversion.
    • Full Rollcage
    • 4 link the rear
    • Much low
    As the Truck sits now;

Then someone stole it and hit something... Front Valance needs replaced and a new fender. Thankfully the Police/Facebook had it back to me in a day. Someone spotted my truck and stood guard for 2 hours till Police arrived. Still don't know who this awesome person was but Thank you!

Picked up a "complete" 4 bolt main for $400

    Steve approves
    [IMG]

Came with a Weiand Intake Manifold and Edelbrock Valve Covers
    [IMG]

Picked up an Edelbrock 1406 for 80 bucks.

Turbo 350 (Good shape) for 80 bucks as well. (The dude threw in a flexplate for free which was nice)

    Also purchased:
    Full gasket set $45
    Waterpump $25
    Alternator $30 with Pigtail
Advance Adapters Mounts $100 bucks with a set of Stock GM brackets. (These look to be built incredibly well!)

Time for the tear down and rebuild!
Thanks to some good friends and a little guidance I got to rebuild my first engine ever.

    Removing the manifolds
    [IMG]

    I spy a ls swapped 280zx
    [IMG]

    Back to Toyota/Chevy stuff
    [IMG]

    Cylinder walls are buttery smooth
    [IMG]

Anyone have a better system? This cracked me up
    [IMG]

Lots of carbon (previous guy was probably running a little rich :) )

Oil Pan off (not sure what I was doing because the main seal did not need replaced and I did't work on anything on the bottom end)

Oil pan was only hanging on by a few bolts so I spent a few hours just cleaning everything up. Block seemed like it had about an inch of build up in places. After getting cleaned up and dried off (sort of) I did a little test run with some red high temp paint)

Replaced a very loose timing chain $10
    [IMG]

Reassembled engine with all new gaskets and discovered an upgraded valvetrain (Not sure with what but its not factory)

Painted the oil pan black and discovered that Oreily's gave me the wrong Oil Pan Gasket so that'll have to wait until next week. No biggie
    [IMG]

Heads will be painted a gloss black and I think the block will stay red.

Thanks for reading. Feel free to ask questions.
    Until next week.

    Stay tuned :)

    -Blake

With that long water pump you're going to end up with the radiator in place of the grill or the engine sitting in the cab. Swap to a short style pump (I default to 72 blazer) and you'll have a chance of getting a radiator under the hood.

Those engine mounts are going to put the engine in a bad place. The only way to get it all to fit right is to build your own mounts.

The bellhousing is huge so you'll need to beat the trans tunnel out a bit for clearance.

Swap the crank pulley for the shorter one too. Keeps everything in line.

    Got a bunch done today!

    • Pulled the old 22r and tranny out
    • Stripped as much as I could from the engine bay
    • Went to town with Purple Power, came out looking almost new!
    • Installed the correct oil pan gasket.
    • Accidentally cut the original frame perches off (According to the Advance Adapter instructions you need these.... Oops
    • Test fit the engine. Everything looks right. White Trash and Jetas were correct. :) Looks like I'm buying another water pump! Technically it would "work" but if I can do without hacking up all the core support then thats even better.
    • As far as the mounts go.... I will trim the advance adapter plates and make my own frame perches. This allows for the engine to sit nice and low. Drops it another 4 inches or so.
    • HEI distributor will fit and the hood should clear in all places, no oil pan issues with IFS.
    • Hammered the sh** out of the transmission tunnel.
    • Everything is looking pretty good for next weekend!
    • Hopefully will be able to start the engine.
    • No issues today!

Friend of mine working while I drink beer, guess he has a class mate at school with over 800k on a 22r with no rebuild. Pretty crazy!

Nice call on the water pump, short pump should work like a charm!

Got a good amount of work done yesterday.

    • Made frame perches
    • Widened the transmission tunnel and pushed the firewall back some more
    • Accidentally smashed the heater core lines while massaging the firewall with a hammer. Its sort of fixed now.
    • Got the engine and transmission bolted in. Had to remove after the first time which added probably two hours to the night. These things are not easy to get in and out.
    • Installed the shift kit in the turbo 350 transmission.
    • Installed the starter to do the first start and realized that I have the wrong one and that it does not reach the flex plate :/ Guess I have the rare 153 tooth flex plate instead of the traditional 168 tooth. Shopping for a starter while writing this because pulling the engine again is not my first choice with the limited time I have to work on this. (Once a week for the past 4 weeks of this project) Work :/
    • The headers clear but barely. Minitruck problems
    • Got measurements for my driveline so I'm gonna try to get that to a shop this week.
    • Still need to go through the carb and clean it but that should not take long at all.
    • Still reading/understanding what all goes in to a 3 link / Coilover conversion so if anyone has some good info on that for our trucks than I'd greatly appreciate it! Pics don't make it look hard but I just need to wrap my head around it a little better before starting.
    • As always pics are below.
    • Anyone know why this thread has not started a second page? Seems odd.

You are going to hate those headers. I ran a couple sets of cheap block huggers before I finally got tired of pulling them off to weld them back together and ordered a set of hooker block huggers. On paper they were the same material as my cheap headers but one hooker weighed more than the pair of the old ones. Never had a problem with them and they were under $200 from summit.

Had to pull the engine again to replace the flex plate with a 168 tooth one. Got everything back in and wired up.

Wired the starter solenoid wire to the chevy starter so I still have the ability to use my key. All lights, blinkers, etc still work.

Got it fired up for a few seconds (Valve covers are not installed yet)

I do not think I plumbed my fuel line to the pump correctly, is it one of the two hardlines mounted on the passenger side frame rail? I think I tried one of the lines above there but that could have been a return line. I just poured a little gas in the carb to start it so thats one of the last things I'm worried about.

Gonna drop my driveline off tomorrow to get a new yoke and shortened a whole two inches.

Changed to a 4.3 radiator out of an s10. (Almost the same as an 85 Corvette Radiator) This fits WAY better and it should cool the engine just fine.

Can someone in Spokane WA come buy this damn 22r and transmission? The extra traction from all the weight in the back is great and all but I want it gone soon.

Nice job. This really needs a second page i keep wanting to read the updates but more pictures keep loading.
There are 3 fuel lines on passenger side. 2 on the fender 1 closer to the frame on the firewall.
1 points up on fender that is your ventilation for the fuel tank
1 points towards engine on fender that is your return.
Line at the bottom by the frame pointing up is your feed.

Is there something I'm missing for it moving some info over to the second page? It is getting really annoying, thank you for the pointers on the fuel line! That makes sense. I was hooked up to the ventilation LOL oops.

No new updates this week, I sold my 22r and Transmission to a friend. I'll be in Wenatchee this weekend doing some Kayaking so no work on the truck this weekend.

I did drop the Driveline off a few days ago to get shortened and have a different Yoke put on it. That should be done around the beginning of next week.

MISC Things Left to Complete before first drive
    • Mount Radiator
    • Run new hoses
    • Relocate the alternator to the driver side of the engine
    • Need to pick up a few more MISC AN fittings.
