Can someone please show me how to wind down my torsion bars to make it lower. Pictures would be really helpful . or a link to something that will help. Cheers
On my 83 I just turned the key counterclockwise and thats how you lower mine maybe the same for yours but lift your truck so the front tires can be in the air
All of a sudden there is a large flood of people on this topic... Go under suspension forum of your year truck and use the SEARCH feature. It's really easy. And its not called a key for the guy who screwed his torsions up already and is offering advise to a newbie... The info can even be found on youtube. Dont attempt this untill you know the pros and cons of lowering this way and understand how to do it properly.
^NM dude. Let it go... Ok... Here it goes.... Jack the truck up on both sides and support it with jackstands. Make a mental not (or tape measure) of the length of bolt that protrudes throught the top of the lock nut. Crack the locknut loose on both sides (after letting soak with some wd-40 or whatever for a bit to save you some hassel) Then you loosen (CCW) equally on both sides. Drop the truck back down to the ground and jounce the suspension a bit to make it settle. Then take a measurment on both sides to make sure it's level ( I use front frame horns). Once you get it where you want it ( sometimes after several tweaks) re-tighten the jam nuts and your done. Remember, if you go too low you will run into rubbing issues with tire to fenderwell bolts/shocks being bottomed out and giving a crappy ride/ tire wear probs(negative camber). Best way to slam front end (right way) is to use drop spindles and drop shocks with the addition of small torsion crank to have best ride quality and tire wear. Thats my fast how to so you have an idea...
Hahahaha dam UNDER CONSTRUCTION '93 there's no need to bring someone down or anything everyone here if ur a newbie , enthusiast or an addict we are all here to talk Toyota learn Toyota and give positive feed back to ppl and help any one or two ways we can all he needed was to be corrected and that's all nothing more nothing less
I'm not trying to bring anyone down at all. I just think its a bad idea to take on a project that you dont understand completley. I dont think anyone without a decent amount of automotive know-how should be tinkering with the suspension of their vehicle. Case in point > he was loosening the torsions of his truck without the vehicle on stands in which he couldve dropped it on himself if he broke a bolt or went to far and killed himself... Then I wouldnt look like an a$$hole if that were the case... Just sayin' I'm trying to give usefull knowledge, not hinder anyones project.... My .02
No UC93 has taken alot of time typing and answering this question. Macawilial has answered this question. No one is bringing anyone down. Sorry to thread jack rjm, its just another one of those "how can I lower my truck" days.
Not addressing the OP but being a newb doesn't mean you ask repeatedly answered questions and give bad advise. Usually a flame free forum is a good thing but here the same people post 10 worthless threads a day because they don't/ won't use the search function.
torsion Yeah make sure you understand the process first before you do it, There is a wrong and safe way to do thing's, Good luck with your truckI laughed at that
How about a video. torsion lowering for 84 toyota p/u - YouTube This should explain how to lower the front of your truck using torsion bars. Hope this helps.
