Trying to get my 84 back on the road. It's been sitting for about a year. It'll crank it just won't start. If I try to give it gas and a popping sound comes from the exhaust like its going to backfire. After a few times it starts to smoke from the exhaust. It's got a quarter of gas. The spark plugs, distributor cap and wires were replaced back in 2012. And it has a Weber carb. Any ideas? Thanks guys

Will it start with carb cleaner or ether?

    Compression, spark and fuel.

Once you check all of that off the list you can start troubleshooting specifics like timing, flooding, etc...

Im thinking I may have flooded it YOguyDA, when i was trying to get it to start the night before, dont have the right socket set to pull out the spark plugs to check it so imma have to borrow some.

The timing i think is fine bc i had the timing chain replaced right before I let it sit, which was i think about 2 years ago.

Truck Action, I was thinking that as well, but when I parked it, it was on E, about 2 or 3 months ago, i put about a gallon in and that whats im trying to start up with now, i dont think it could have gone bad in that short span of time.
