i have 90' 2wd p/u and im finally able to do the 7mgte swap (money wise) im starting to collect parts for the swap have a motor w/ trans in sight... i just need to know the total bill of parts needed to do this swap right. i know this swap has been done many times before but i cant find publications on parts used to get it done smoothly... im looking to have my truck out for only a weekend nonstop serious building at most a week out of running during the summer when im out of school and can take time off work... can you guys help me out with a parts list though? thank you =)
Ok so here is the bulk of what you will need. 7mgte engine with all accessories (alt, pwr stering pump... etc) ECU and Wiring Harness (LHD reccomended) Tranny (W58 or R154) Igniter Motor Mounts (motor side) The Drive Shaft will have to be shortened. Electric Fans. (I fit 2 12" on mine) Powerstering Pressure line (needs to be bent. Mine was to Rusty) Air Filter (I used Cone) Turbo Piping lines for Intercooler and such Supra Throttle Cable Rad Hoses (used supra lower, and any one that fit for uper) Regulator (Plugs into one connector on wiring harness) Supra MAF sensor Universal battery tray Clutch slave cylinder Starter (if it didnt come with one) If there is anything i forgot i will post it up. I am working on a write up for this swap... just havent had lots of time to get it done.
Thanks for taking the time to do the write-up. How much HP are you pumping? I wish mine can do a burnout like that in your sig....
I am also going to do this swap. After doing a lot of research, it seems that more of these engines die due to oiling issues than anything else. Here are a couple of links that will help your motor live longer! http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=253229 http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43802
when you swapped your truck did you have oil pan clearance? i've also heard that the truck 5spd tranny will fit a 7mgte if you swap the bellhousing... i have still yet to do this swap because I am having trouble finding parts in good running quality at a decent price =(
Yea oil pan clearance was an issue. I bent my pitman and idler arms down to clear. I would suggest notching the pan. Doesnt have to be very much. I used a W58 tranny. Just for easy. No bellhousing swapping.
