Hello everybody. I was wondering just where exactly one would find the fill plug for a 5 speed transmission. I have an 87 Yota but Im not sure what year the transmission is. The head on the fill plug is rounded off (big surprise) and I have had no luck at all scouring the internet or looking at parts stores. Any thoughts? I looked on the website for the local junkyard and they dont seem to have anything either.
I tried them, he said they didnt have one. (actually, Im pretty sure he just didnt want to deal with my issue.)
If you need to fill the trans you can always remove the shifter and fill it there. That's how I always do it.
Toyota transfer cases and axle fill & drain plugs are all the same thread pitch & size. I like to use t case fill plugs since they have a nice wide mm head.
On my 88 with a W55 trans the drain plug is on the bottom & the fill plug on the side, you use a push type pump that goes on the oil bottle, fill until starts to come out!! You can not fill from the top ,the shifter housing has no through openings into the trans gear area, not sure on other transmissions. My trans was just apart Z& the shop owner showed me that!!
Truck Action, Not saying your wrong in any way but my w55 I drained then filled through the shifter hole.. it definitely made its way through because I drained it again and it was fresh fluid?
Not to forget that the trans vents through the shifter housing so there has to be a channel of some sort.
