thats a nice clean truck you have there blasito. :waytogo:

im in the process of building a mildly built motor. i think you and I have a similar goal in mind for performance. from what ive been told and people that have actually had this setup, they are telling me to expect numbers around the 150-170 range. here's what i am doing with mine......

    - lower end will be rebuilt. .020 over pistons.
    - topend will have an engnbldr street/rv head with s.s. O.S valves. slightly bigger, cleaner porting than oem castings. will be running a 270/480 cam from engnbldr as well.
    - for induction i will be running 44mm dual sidedraft mikuni carb's.
    - exhaust consists of a downey 4-1 header, 2.5 inch catless exhaust.
    - a little extra i will be adding in is a fidanza lightended flywheel (9lb.) to let the motor rip a little easier.
    - for cooling i will be running either dual 12" or one big single 16" electric fan.

i have a 5 speed tranny bolted in with a stock 4 speed rear axle that has the 8" diff and 3:07 gearing. before i tore it down, the truck would cruise 80mph at 3000rpm's or when i wasnt in a hurry, 65-70mph @ 2500rpm's. this is a nice long distance setup. if i dropped it into 4th the rpm's would jump baack to 3000rpm's doing 65mph.

Can't wait to see OP's truck going smooth and strong! Truthfully, there is alot of Offroading stuff, but remember these motors are torque-"biased"

they respond very well to torque increase, especially use of headers and Cams. Most of the offroading cams and headers are meant for torque, and that's what you would love. Trust me... lack of torque sucks! and lack of backpressure!

I have always wanted to try a 5 speed with 3.07s on these trucks.

yea....... that 5 speed tranny and 3:07 gearing makes it real nice on the highways. helps when you run a slightly smaller wheel/tire combo. :waytogo:
