I just recently picked up a 1981 Toyota pickup sr5 2wd and it is currently my project vehicle. I'm looking to static lower it but am having a hard time finding parts. Any suggestions?
Leaf springs, torsion keys, spindles, shackles. Basically everything to get somewhere around 3" of drop all the way around is what I'm going for.
A couple of options, I believe, for springs. https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/bel-5976/applications/make/toyota/model/pickup (need 2) http://www.streetedgeusa.com/street-edge-79-88-toyota-pickup-2wd-3-lowering-leaf-spring-set/
I've got belltech leaf springs myself, and dig em. "Torsion keys" you just have to adjust, not replace. Drop spindles will give you a drop in the front without having to adjust the torsions. As for shackles, I have only ever seen them for lifting the rear. for an easy static drop (as I did, and what I think most people do to start) you just need some lowering blocks out back, with a ball joint flip and torsion bar adjustment up front. You can buy blocks in any depth from 1" to 4", then adjust the front torsion bars to match ride height.
Thanks! It really does help, I've only really done some lowering work on hondas and 240sx lol. Still tryin to learn the whole setup on this truck.
