first i set the stock stuff to TDC

    rotor pointing @ #1

and the timing mark at zero

then i removed everything connected to the points dizzy with out cutting wires, listed the ones i left in the truck and polarity
    [IMG]

ended up with 2 wires in the truck disconnected one hot and one not with the key on. these two wires which were connected to the coil/ignitor on the points set up (BLK+R to pos of coil, BLK+Y connected to the ballast resistor)

my electronic sys came from a 78-79 celica. on the chassis plug of the new coil/ig has one wire going straight to the pos of the coil. the other goes to the igniter.

unfortunatly my truck doesnt have a tach yet but i believe this lil thing controls it. the wire that i labeled "dissapears" is for the tach.

at the junkyard this whole swap only costs $20-30 and if you get both sides of the plugs with some clever wiring it will look 100% stock and a crap load more reliable.

i used the FREE online manuals @ www.autozone.com for wiring diagrams.

no im not spam, i jus use the F out of those manuals and i think they've earned my support. i just dont shop there :D

to finish up this thread for now...

i ran a hot wire straight from the pos post on the batt to the pos side of the coil and connected the blk+yel wire to the neg side of the coil.

or more correctly i connected those wires to the stock plug so the igniter could get the power it needs.

i plan to track down the red+blk wire and use that as the pos wire for a completely stock look

    Would this work on a 73-74 18r?

not with a 18r, the dizzy doesnt interchange. but you could totally swap in a whole 20/22r to fix it easy.

ive heard that you can swap the electronic guts from a 20r to a 18r dizzy, but never seen it done, or found pics on the net to prove it.

What about something like the Pertronix or Crane electronic conversion kits, they both make them for early Toyota models? or at least they did :)
