I have a 1995 pickup 4x4 with a 22re. I recently swapped engines do to a split cylinder wall with a remanufactured engine from a certified engine joint. Truck has less power now then when the old engine was in and occasionally backfires through the intake. I have the smog elimination kit (not sure if the vacuum lines are hooked up right). Has anyone else encountered this problem and can anyone help please?!?!? Thank you in advance!!!

 

Check your timing. Thats probably going to be the issue with the backfire.

Timing being off can have that effect

 

If the timing is good is there anything else that could cause that?

 

The vacuum lines could also cause problems
