Hey guys, I got my truck on stands right now, finally got around to soaking on some suspension parts I had that I've been lazy about. I removed the nut on my upper ball joint and death as, but can't seem to get it to drop the lower arm and spindle. Is there something else I need to remove? Trying to avoid unfolding anything unnecisary as there is 43 years worth of crap on this thing and I have to scrub down every nut before removing
Support the LCA with a jack. Hit the spindle with a hammer where the BJ goes thru the spindle. Its should seperate. BJ comes up and off the control arm after removing the 4 nuts and bolts holding it in. Brake line is probably going to keep the LCA from extending far enough to get the spring out. I ended up removing the spindle from both control arms to get the springs out Oh and remove the shocks
Been struggling with this for a while now, spindle won't freaking come off, like it's one solid peice with the upper ball joint. Both balljoints unbolted, shock removed, and swaybar disconnected. Nothing connecting these things, been hammering and hammering and ended up destroying the upper balljoint
Since you already destroyed the BJ, grab a pickle fork and seperate it that way. Were you able to break the lower BJ loose from the spindle?
I'd put that castle nut back on the upper ball joint. You dont want that spindle jumping towards you when it does release and your hand is in that area. the tools made to remove ball joints save you time and money.
I didn't know there was a tool for removing ball joints, my other cars had no issues removing them once unbolted. I'll see if I can get one, and I'll throw that nut back on, I didn't even think about that, thanks
Thanks foe your help guys, got it yesterday with a pickle fork. New mighty max springs and gas a justs in
Hey Bottle - looks good! Was thinking of doing the same on mine. Did you use blocks to lower the back? What size?
