posted in other areas old girl is getting some well deserved love . so far total engine rebuild, new steering inner and outer tire rod ends with new tubes. idler arm, pit man arm. , tranny mount input out put seals , motor mounts , water pump, distributor , fuel pump. carb. ingitor pointless ing. more to come , check out the damage to the starter stills works that happened when the rod went through the bloc of last motor. ok a motor is electric and a engine is combustion.
got the paint at the local Detroit diesel dealer, color is Detroit green. wanted Detroit blue . said wrong color but your right it is good
worked on the truck today , bled the rear brakes, changed the shocks all of them, cleaned and mounted fan, finished painting the rad, installed rad, tranny lines, new upper/lower rad hoses. spark plug wires, started working on heater hoses , need a 2 inch piece of 5/8 to finish and put coolant in it. started to spay frame with fluid film.
put break in oil in. refilled tranny just enough so it not dry on start up. last photo is what i need the small hose for.
so to day repair exhaust flange , put grill and front turns back on , replaced the ingitor ( it didnt like pos on ground side opps)
small steps started it for the first time from in side the cab . got rid of the jumper to the coil from the battery, and the jumper from switch wire on starter to coil . deleted ignition relay but running on factory harness.
going to set toe on the steers tomorrow and then take her around the block and see what need adj. seems to run good revs good and when take the throttle away revs drop and idles nice and smooth, think im on the right track.
took her out of the garage under her own power , tried to go around the block made 2 corners and she died , 1 tenth of a mile, baby steps how ever the 1/10 mile push home felt like 10 miles, she was sick after all she on a iv bottle that is how she was getting fuel. mabie not enough volume
replace the fuel pump. new filter and lines upfront, started and ran , took it for a ride 2 miles up to 40 mph , stops not the greatest needs adjustment, but a lot better than the last 1/10 mile test ride where i pushed it home. pull the seats and the old gold carpet to see how bad the floors are, 2 small rust holes on right side none on the left even though it looks a lot worse. put the mirror on. new paper from 2000 in calif,
splitting with the old lady . so i move it to a bubbys garage for safe keeping in a month or so when my new house is done .i can start on it again
We're only about two hours apart. I've got a couple 1973s in Bellevue. Only ever seen three of these old pickups, and I own two of them.
