So im swapping the disc brakes from a 75-78 onto my 72 second gen. I rebuilt the calipers but i need the torque specs for the bolts that hold both halves of the caliper together. Anyone have an FSM with this info?
Calipers split in half. Theyre held together by 4 bolts. Not the best pic but you can see the bolt heads. I just want to make sure theyre torqued to spec so the O ring between the halves doesnt leak or anything
Yeah, no fsm here. I thought if you had the sliding calipers I could get u the spec for the 84+. Snug + a bit?
I tightened them with my dewalt impact driver, that set em to about 40ft lbs. i gave em a bit more by hand. Hopefully itl be enough
I have the FSM. Toyota cautions not to loosen the "bridge bolts". Those are the bolts that hold the two halves together. The caliper assembly itself is tightened 67.3 to 86.8 ft-lb.
I found out not to split them way after i split them lol. Is that spec to bolt the caliper to the spindle?
If you know the specs on the bolt itself, I believe I saw a page in my fsm with torque specs by the type of bolt. Or see if Google can point u in the right direction, using info from different make and model specs?
I rarely use a torque wrench for anything other than something like cylinder head bolts. If your calipers were made from aluminum I would be afraid of over tightening and maybe stripping threads. Lucky for you their good old cast metal. I would tighten equally to best guess. Worst case: Rebuilts about $25.00 each at Rock Auto.
Theyre torqued about the same, il see what happens. And yea i just rebuilt these, dont want to buy another set
