Hi guys.. Quick question.. I installed an exedy clutch on my 84 about 8 months ago and today it started slipping. Anybody know how this could happen? I do drive my truck hard, but it's been only 8 months.. Could it have been something I did on the install? Also, does anyone know where I can reliably get aisin clutch online? Or locally in Austin? Your help is greatly appreciated.

What exedy clutch did you go with?

Marlincrawler.com carries Aisin seico clutches. Marlin recommends having the flywheel step at .026" rather than the factory .020" spec.

    Exedy

It was the exedy 16057 kit. I bought it on amazon. Disappointed that I did..

I was hoping I could get something locally so I could get the truck running again. My wife's car transmission went down this week also so I'm kinda without a vehicle. I had to borrow my friends car, but it will be available only for a few days.

I've had good luck with the standard clutches at oriellys. I'm actually running their pressure plate on a 6 puck ceramic disc and 9 lb aluminum flywheel in my dd. Works great.

Sounds like your pressure plate is defective. I am having double problems on both my rigs. Spun a main bearing on my 1980 3/4 after headgasket leaked under heavy load on long mtn grade-from 0 oil use to 2 qt. in 100 miles, now my other rig transmission is barely shifting(input shaft noise and adjusting doesn't work. I know you have freeplay if you did your clutch so it is releasing. I used to use rebuilt pressure plates 25 y/o until about 3 had defective springs and would slip. I think with ebay or Rockauto you get seconds sometimes.
Other possibility is some oil on friction surface maybe. I drive hard with heavy loads as well. Once a clutch slips they tend to glaze up flywheel. Winter weather starting here. Good luck, we both have to take 'em apart.W

thanks for the advice.. I pulled out the clutch and the flywheel does look glazy, interestingly the disk looked like it had some heating issues.. looks all purple and blue.. I'll take a picture and post.. I installed the clutch today (more like a minute ago), mounted the transmission and now I'm calling it quits because i have work tomorrow morning. sorry to hear about your rigs! hope you get'em running again.. :)
