My truck has recently developed a vibration like i've never felt before. It vibrates the whole truck but to me seems to be coming from the drivetrain. The steering wheel doesnt shake like an unbalanced tire or alignment, in fact it doesnt shake at all. It also feels like its robbing power. I 've crawled underneath and the drive shaft is plenty tight, hardly any play at all on both ends. My front suspension needs all new parts (ball joints, tie rod ends etc etc) but it doesnt feel like its coming from the front..anyone have any ideas?

Does your driveshaft hit your cross brace on large bumps ? What speed does it start at

Sounds like maybe the pinion angle is out. It could cause u-joint wear and the cause vibration and or caust the driveshaft to fall... I would check this soon. A drive shaft falling out can be deadly to you and your mini...

Check out this thread. This guy got a vibe when he swapped trannies and did his clutch. It ended up being the trans he swapped in. This may not be your issue but it's just one more thing that can cause vibes.

    caliper

When you said robbing power I was thinking your caliper might be getting stuck. But then again it wouldn't be happening all the time. It would only start binding when it was getting super hot already. Just something to check.

He'd feel it in his steering wheel if it was brakes.

I'd say get it on a lift and inspect the frame. Then every suspension component. With the rear tires up, does the axle rotate freely?

    Good luck man.

and hopefully everything is holding together! :O

I feel it in the shifter...

From what I can tell all motor mounts are good, it starts about 20mph and kind of goes throughout the speed range from there. I haven't done anything to pinion angles or dropped the truck anymore. it just started all of a sudden..Haven't had time to get it off the ground, but i did see that episode of mythbusters with the broken drive shaft:eek: lol, gotta fix it fast!!

Hey Joey I recently had a vibration thru my shifter. After changing my trans then con rod, thrust and main bearings I pulled of the clutch and found my flywheel bolts had run loose and I always lock tight them. I torqued them back down and felt stupid because that's what I first suspected.

    Open road.
    Go above 20mph.
    Clutch in, neutral.
    Does vibration seem any different?

    Check / Inspect:
    Transmission mount.
    Driveshaft for missing weights.
    Driveshaft for missing bolts.

That's as much as I can think of.

you can try tighten the 4 bolts that hold the driveshaft on the pinion flange in a criss cross pattern. i had the same vibration problem before, i had one of the four bolts that were supposed to be on.

Like Cin asked, does it change in neutral, how about engine braking?

Check your transmission and diff fluid level. Could the trans or rear end going out.

if the clutch is out, it won't be the pilot bearing because the engine and input shaft are spinning together then.:brickknock:
